Remember the delivery-truck ritual from [The Most Justified Shopping Spree in Audio History]? Today it paid off. The unmistakable pneumatic sigh, the heavy footsteps, the gentle thump — and just like that, two new Raspberry Pis are on the bench: a Pi 4 and a Pi 5 with 2GB of RAM.
That 2GB Pi 5 is a more important arrival than it looks. Our published minimum spec is 2GB of RAM — so this little board is the minimum spec, in the flesh. If KVE runs flawlessly here, every Pi 5 owner on Earth is covered, from the cheapest configuration on up. No asterisks, no “recommended: more than we said.” The floor gets proven, not promised. The Pi 4, meanwhile, answers the question we know half of you are asking: will the board already in my drawer work? Testing is how we find out for sure.
Off to the In-House Beta Squad
Here’s the fun part: these two aren’t staying on the bench. Once they’re configured, they’re being deployed to our in-house beta testers — the trusted inner circle who get KVE before the invitational beta ever opens. Real living rooms, real record collections, real listening habits, zero laboratory conditions.
This is the phase where the software leaves the nest. On the bench, everything is controlled and monitored and behaves itself. In someone’s house, records get played at dinnertime, systems get power-cycled without warning, and volume knobs get treated with a generosity the neighbors don’t always share. That’s exactly the abuse we want before strangers get their hands on it.
And to the wives of the in-house beta squad: we apologize in advance. The music is going to be cranked. All day. Repeatedly. “Honey, I HAVE to play it loud — it’s quality assurance” is a sentence that’s about to be said in multiple Florida households, and for once, it’s technically true.
